Transitional and supportive housing

Transitional housing

Transitional housing is supportive, temporary accommodation that bridges the gap from homelessness to permanent housing. It offers structure, supervision, support (e.g., for addictions and mental health), life skills, education and training.

Transitional Housing units include:

  • Ingamo Homes (Woodstock): Ingamo Homes is a transitional program with housing that supports women and their children.
  • The Light House (Tillsonburg): Transitional housing for those aged 18 years and above.
  • The Light House (Ingersoll): Transitional housing for those aged 18 years and above with some accessible units. Referrals are provided through the By-Name list.
  • CMHA-Thames Valley (Ingersoll): Transitional housing for those aged 18 years and above. Referrals are provided through the By-Name list.

Supportive housing

Supporting housing is permanent, affordable housing that provides support services to help residents live more stable lives. Often for those confronted with homelessness, substance abuse issues, mental health, disabilities (e.g., intellectual, mobility or sensory) or other challenges that prohibit stable housing.

Individuals or households who need a home that is modified to make it accessible, or support services so they can live independently in the community, can apply for modified and supportive housing units.

Modified and supportive housing units include:

  • Canadian Mental Health Association: CMHA-Thames Valley offers long and short-term housing options, including housing for people dealing with mental illness, homelessness or addictions.
  • Caressant Care: Provides permanent housing, personal support, and some assistance with activities of daily living to vulnerable adults in the community.
  • Cheshire Homes: For adults with significant physical disabilities and frail seniors.
  • Indwell Care: Creates affordable housing communities for people seeking health, wellness and belonging.
  • Prospect and Broadway Houses (Tillsonburg): Supportive housing for those aged 18 years and above.
