Oxford County celebrates grand opening of new affordable housing development in Woodstock

Oxford County and Woodstock Non-Profit Housing Corporation marked an important milestone on April 20 with a ribbon cutting ceremony celebrating the grand opening of 785 Southwood Way in Woodstock.

The new 52-unit residential apartment building will provide much-needed housing in the community, including 37 affordable one- and two-bedroom units dedicated to supporting seniors, single women, and women with children.

Oxford County supported the project through the provision of shovel-ready land aligned with the County’s Master Housing Strategy, along with a $1.4 million capital contribution and development charge exemptions. The federal and provincial governments jointly contributed $1.92 million to support 19 of the 37 affordable units.

The event brought together local leaders and project partners to celebrate the achievement. Remarks were shared by Marcus Ryan, Warden of Oxford County; Jerry Acchione, Mayor of Woodstock and Oxford County Councillor; and Larry Moore, Director of Woodstock Non-Profit Housing Corporation.

Also in attendance were members of Oxford County Council and staff, including Bernia Martin, Deputy Warden and City of Woodstock Councillor; Ben Addley, Chief Administrative Officer; Rebecca Smith, Director of Human Services; Anthony Dolcetti, Manager of Housing and Homelessness; Phil Schaefer, Mayor of Township of East Zorra-Tavistock and Oxford County Councillor; and David Mayberry, Mayor of South-West Oxford and Oxford County Councillor.

Representatives from the board of directors of Woodstock Non-Profit Housing Corporation and team members from Sierra Construction Group were also present, along with members of the media and residents of the new building.

Following the ceremonial ribbon cutting, attendees were invited to tour the facility, including shared amenities and a third-floor unit, offering a firsthand look at the thoughtfully designed living spaces.

The opening of 785 Southwood Way reflects a continued commitment by Oxford County and its partners to increase access to safe, affordable housing and support inclusive, healthy communities.
