Climate Action Plan

County Council receives the Climate Action Plan next council meeting, one of the goals identified in Oxford County’s 2023-2026 Strategic Plan. If approved, the plan will serve as a roadmap for County-led climate initiatives over the next five years.

The Climate Action Plan focuses primarily on preparedness and resiliency, encompassing awareness and strategies for groundwater protection, extreme heat, flood resiliency and more. The report notes that any future initiatives that advance the plan will be considered as part of the County’s annual business plan and budget process, and that external funding support would be pursued as a first step.

Update on e-bike legislation

County Council receives an update on proposed regulatory changes for power-assisted bicycles (e-bikes) on June 24. An updated regulatory framework for e-bikes was posted on the Environmental Registry of Ontario in April for public review and comment. Under the new framework, e-bikes are recognized as a distinct e-bike class, rather than the current vehicle class, allowing more flexibility to use e-bikes for recreation and as a means of sustainable transportation. The staff report is supportive of the proposed changes, noting they are a positive step toward improving safety, consistency, and enforcement across Ontario.
