Woodingford Lodge launches peer to peer ostomy support group
Find emotional support, practical education and shared experiences at Ostomy Support Oxford
Woodingford Lodge’s Family Transition Program is launching a new peer support group for people living with new or existing ostomies. Supported by the Ostomy Canada Society, Ostomy Support Oxford is the first group of its kind in Oxford County.
Meetings held on the last Tuesday of every month
6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Woodingford Lodge, Board Room
300 Juliana Drive, Woodstock, Ontario
The support group provides a safe space where to share real-life experiences, ask questions, and learn from health professionals. The sessions are administered by Registered Nurse Bethanie Fulton, who is a Nurse Specialized in Wound, Ostomy and Continence (NSWOC), Wound, Ostomy and Continence Certified (WOCc) and has a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN).
Living with an ostomy can be challenging, and Ostomy Support Oxford is here to help. The group will offer speakers and presentations on topics such as daily life with an ostomy, health and wellness, sexuality, travel, tax credits, and skin care. Meetings are informal and free to attend.
Statistics from Ostomy Canada Society show that 13,000 Canadians undergo ostomy surgery every year, and 165,000 people in Canada are living with an ostomy.
The next Ostomy Support Oxford meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 30, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Woodingford Lodge Board Room at 300 Juliana Drive in Woodstock.
