New provincial funding will support Woodingford Lodge’s adult day program for Oxford seniors

Woodingford Lodge has received new funding through Ontario's Community Access to Long-Term Care program to continue and enhance its Adult Day Program for seniors across Oxford County.

The provincial investment allows Woodingford Lodge to provide therapeutic day programming and specialized health services for older adults living in the community who are waiting for long-term care or need additional supports to remain safely at home. 

The program also provides education, resources, and practical support for caregivers, helping families navigate the healthcare system and access services that promote successful aging in place.

By supporting both seniors and their caregivers, the CALTC program helps delay or prevent long-term care admission, reduce avoidable hospital visits, and improve quality of life through proactive, coordinated care.

Woodingford Lodge's Family Transition Program, launched in 2018, was the first program of its kind in Canada. Originally created to help individuals and families transition to long-term care, the program supports Oxford County residents waiting for placement in any long-term care home through day visits, health and wellness services, therapeutic programming, and meaningful social engagement.

In 2022, the program was expanded through Ontario Health's Local Priorities Fund (LPF) to introduce an Adult Day Program, increasing access to therapeutic programming and community-based supports for seniors awaiting long-term care.

Building on the success of this initiative, the new funding will expand services to seven days a week while enhancing the range of supports available to clients and caregivers. In addition to therapeutic recreation and social programming, participants will have access to physiotherapy, personal care and bathing, falls prevention, foot care, caregiver education and support, and other interdisciplinary services designed to help seniors remain safely at home for longer.

This investment strengthens Woodingford Lodge's role as a community hub for dementia care and healthy aging, providing earlier intervention, coordinated care, and enhanced caregiver supports that improve quality of life while reducing pressures on hospitals and long-term care waitlists.
