National AccessAbility Week: May 25 to May 31
Remember to wear red on May 28 for Red Shirt Day as part of National AccessAbility Week in Canada
The Oxford County Accessibility Advisory Committee encourages everyone to help promote accessibility and inclusion during National AccessAbility Week. This week is an opportunity to celebrate and recognize the contributions of people with disabilities in Canada. It is also a chance to discover new ways to remove barriers and help create a welcoming society for everyone.
One way to get involved is to wear red next Wednesday, May 28, for Red Shirt Day. The Red Shirt Day of Action for Accessibility and Inclusion started in 2019 by Easter Seals Canada and is held annually every Wednesday during National AccessAbility Week. By wearing red, you are showing a commitment to removing physical, attitudinal, and systemic barriers to accessibility and inclusion in your school, workplace, or community, and as a pledge of your commitment to helping create a fully accessible and inclusive society.
The citizen-led Oxford County Accessibility Advisory Committee has six members from the public and one appointed member of Oxford County Council. The Committee provides a forum to raise issues and concerns for persons with disabilities living in Oxford County. It also provides advice and guidance to Oxford County Council on County polices, practices and programs.
The Committee is encouraging people across Oxford to post a selfie or a group photo on May 28 in their red shirts with their Red Shirt Day pledge and the hashtags: #RedShirtDay #RedForAccessAbility.
