Oxford County Waste Management Facility (landfill)

NOTE: Waste Management Facility in Salford reopening Tuesday, May 19

Our Waste Management Facility in Salford is reopening with regular business hours for residential and commercial users beginning Tuesday, May 19, 2020.

For safety of all visitors and staff, we ask that customers avoid making non-essential trips. Customers making essential trips to the facility may experience delays, as the number of vehicles allowed into the site at one time will be limited. Visitors to the facility will be required to follow provincial health guidelines for physical distancing. This means between staff and other site visitors must stay at least 2metres / 6 feet apart while onsite and are encouraged to follow proper hand washing/sanitization practices before and after their visits.

Customers should also note that contactless payment methods like debit and credit are preferred over cash payment at this time.

Customers are reminded not to visit the facility if they are sick or displaying symptoms of COVID-19.


Oxford County’s Waste Management Facility (landfill) is a one-stop shop for residents and businesses in Oxford County to dispose of their garbage and recycling. Play the video to take a virtual tour of the facility to see how it operates and what kinds of materials you can bring for disposal.

To help ensure the safe and efficient operation of the site, customers are asked to observe the following rules:

  • Unsafe loads will be rejected.
  • Objects that could damage machinery will be rejected.
  • Speed limits must be obeyed.
  • Customers are responsible for removing waste material from their vehicles.
  • Loads must be tarped and secured.
  • No illegal dumping of waste.
  • Scavenging is not permitted.

Oxford County reserves the right to reject any load or object that appears to be a hazard to the safety of its employees. To help ensure the safe and efficient operation of the site, clients are asked to follow the rules.

Hours & Holidays

The Waste Management Facility (landfill) is open for residential and commercial use:
Monday – Friday from 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Saturdays - 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

The facility is closed on Sundays and the following holidays:

  • New Year's Day
  • Family Day
  • Good Friday
  • Victoria Day
  • Canada Day
  • Civic Holiday (first Monday of August)
  • Labour Day
  • Thanksgiving Day
  • Remembrance Day
  • Christmas Day
  • Boxing Day (December 26)

NOTICE: Tipping fees for 2020 and operational holiday hours for the Oxford County Waste Management Facility and Oxford County Customer Service

Tipping Fees

The Oxford County Waste Management Facility (landfill) accepts cash, debit, credit card and mastercard.

You will be asked for a $10 minimum deposit upon entering the facility to ensure the payment for the load. However, larger loads will require a larger deposit. The deposit amount is at the discretion of the scale-house operator.

The customer's vehicle is weighed on the way into the site and again on the way out. The difference in weight is assessed and the appropriate tipping fee is determined. There is a flat fee for items such as refrigerators, and other freon containing items.

2020 Tipping Fees

  • Mixed Solid Waste $80.00/1000 kg
  • Construction and Demolition Waste $76.54/1000 kg
  • Minimum load charge of $10 applies
  • Segregated Loads of Scrap Metal: No Charge
  • Items which contain Freon or may have contained Freon: $10.00/unit surcharge (unless tagged by an authorized Freon removal technician)

Homeowners with small domestic loads of waste will be diverted to the Transfer Station.  Industrial, Commercial and Institutional (IC&I) vehicles will be required to go to the tipping face (pit). However, on Saturdays, all vehicles may be directed to the tipping face (pit).

Offences

Any vehicle that does not abide by the Highway Traffic Act or Oxford County By-law 4954-2800 will be subject to increased fees.
1st offence: 2X disposal fee
2nd offence: 3X disposal fee
3rd offence: 5X disposal fee

Business

Waste Management Facility (landfill) for business'

Oxford County provides a variety of waste management services for the Industrial, Commercial and Institutional (IC&I) sectors.

If your business or institution is a frequent visitor to the Waste Management Facility (landfill) and you are interested in setting up a pre-paid account, you may choose to complete a landfill user account information application.

Specialty recycling depots

The Industrial, Commercial and Institutional (IC&I) sector can bring recycling materials to all of the County's specialty recycling depots located at the Oxford County Waste Management Facility (landfill).
Hazardous and liquid industrial waste may be subject to a load surcharge of $30.00 per 25 litre container. Hazardous and liquid industrial waste coming from the Industrial, Commercial and Institutional (IC&I) sector must be approved prior to arriving on site. Businesses and institutions seeking approval must complete and submit the following forms:

Bag tags and recycling containers

Bag tags and recycling containers can be purchased throughout the County.

Special waste

The Oxford County Waste Management Facility (landfill) accepts other special waste that requires special provisions.

If you have contaminated soils and/or asbestos, you are required to call in advance: 519-539-9800 or 1-800-755-0394.

The Waste Management Facility (landfill) accepts the following special wastes:

  • Tree limbs/stumps┬áno longer than 6 feet/ 1.8 metres
  • Rubble small enough to be handled by one person
  • Railway ties/trees cut into 3-foot/ 0.9-metre length
  • Needles: autoclaved and in proper containers
  • Infectious wardroom/animal husbandry: autoclaved and in proper containers

Items not accepted include:

  • Burning material
  • Material in burn barrels
  • Chemical, liquid and pathological waste - See household hazardous waste information
  • Car bodies, recreational vehicles or farm machinery
  • Dead animals
  • Long pieces of steel tubing or piping
  • Recyclable residue from outside the County
  • Objects that may damage machinery
