Calling on local makers to join “Handcrafted Routes”
Oxford Tourism is looking to feature handcrafted artists on the Handcrafted Routes trail, a new tourism experience launching this fall
Oxford Tourism invites local makers and artists to help shape Handcrafted Routes, a tourism experience connecting visitors with Oxford County’s handcrafted products.
Oxford Tourism is currently consulting with local museums, arts-based businesses and cooperatives to gather input on how the program can best reflect and support the community. Recognizing that many creators are hobbyists or part-time makers, Oxford Tourism is issuing an open call for participants of all experience levels to sign up to receive information and provide feedback.
Planned for launch in September 2026, Handcrafted Routes will celebrate the region’s diverse maker community. Visitors will have the opportunity to engage directly with artisans, explore studios and shops, and gain hands-on insight into a diverse range of creative practices.
Handcrafted arts encompass items created by hand or with the aid of tools and machinery, which require creativity and artistic design. This could include pottery, woodworking, metalwork, sewing, fibre arts, soapmaking, restoration, stonework, paper arts, culinary arts, floral design, and visual arts. The initiative will also highlight businesses that support makers, such as woodworking and fabric supply stores, as well as second-hand and antique shops offering materials and handcrafted goods.
Local makers are encouraged to submit their information through an online form and take an active role in shaping Handcrafted Routes. By signing up, you will stay informed throughout the development process. To register your interest, visit: www.oxfordcounty.ca/tourism
