POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the County Buildings Foreperson, performs daily, monthly and annual inspections, carries out repairs, adjustments, and preventative maintenance and respond to facility and building related emergencies atCounty owned and leased buildings and properties.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Carries out repairs, adjustments, maintenance and inspections of County owned and leased buildings and properties
- Where approved by the Buildings Foreperson, purchases all necessary materials and goods or schedules contracted services where required to carry out specific assigned tasks.
- Reviews and/or monitors the work of contracted service providers and reports any deficiencies, irregularities or concerns to the Buildings Foreperson.
- Participates in building repair, restoration and reconstruction projects.
- Applies approved operating policies, procedures and legislation and supplements the judgment and initiative of the Buildings Foreperson.
- Reports on deficiencies found while doing work at County owned and leased buildings and properties.
- Uses initiative and judgment to solve problems at County owned and leased buildings and properties.
- Consults with the Buildings Foreperson on matters involving County owned/leased properties or tenants.
- Communicates with tenants to schedule repairs, provide notice of entry, and act on the behalf of the tenants when providing entry to contractors in their absence
- Maintains a record of work performed, either in written format or through use of automated work-management software.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR SUCCESS:
- Completion of post-secondary education along with completion of a relevant trade certification and/or qualification or demonstrated practical experience in the field of building maintenance and repairs.
- Good knowledge of construction practices, best practices with respect to building maintenance and repairs as well as a working knowledge of applicable legislation and regulations.
- Able to work unsupervised.
- Valid Ontario Driver's License is required.
- Employment is conditional upon receipt of a successful Vulnerable Persons Police Clearance.

WORKING CONDITIONS
- Requires physical effort such as lifting, pushing, pulling of heavy objects, working in loud areas, at heights, etc.
- Overtime and or after-hours work may be required from time-to-time
- Typical work environment is interior and exterior, working in all weather conditions and temperatures.
- Involves driving to different County-owned sites.
- Exposure to designated substances, unsanitary conditions (sewage back-up, pest and rodent infestations) and narcotics related paraphernalia.
- Periodic exposure to agitated, angry and unpredictable tenants/customers.
- Must be able to respond, react and complete work in a suitable manner to time sensitive situations.
