Same day pick-up for new recycling program confirmed for Woodstock and South-West Oxford
City of Woodstock and Township of South-West Oxford residents will have same day pick-up for garbage, green bin organics, and blue box recycling starting January 2026.
Oxford County and City of Woodstock have been in discussion with Circular Materials-- the province-wide, not-for-profit organization responsible for blue box recycling in the new year-- to align its residential blue box recycling collection with Woodstock and South-West Oxford’s collection for garbage and green bin organics.
The City of Woodstock moves to a rotating six-day cycle starting January 2026. Under this type of schedule, your pick-up moves forward one day each week, skipping weekends and holidays. Six-day collection schedules reduce the cost and environmental impact of curbside waste collection.
The Township of South-West Oxford, which also begins green bin organics collection in January, will continue its current six-day collection cycle for waste. All other municipalities in Oxford begin green bin collection and six-day cycles in May 2027, when the current contract for waste collection in these communities ends.
The new 2026 Oxford County Waste Collection schedule is online now at www.wasteline.ca. It includes new collection zones and schedules for City of Woodstock. Woodstock residents will also receive individual letters to their home confirming their new collection zone and schedule. The 2026 schedule will be arriving in mailboxes in mid-December.
Under Ontario’s Resource Recovery and Circular Economy Act, responsibility for providing recycling services is transferring from municipalities to producers that create products and packaging. This change began in July 2023 and takes effect in Oxford County on January 1, 2026. For information about the new residential blue box program, visit www.circularmaterials.ca/oxfordcounty.
Small businesses, municipal buildings or institutions (libraries, arenas), childcare centres, places of worship and campgrounds are not included in the new, province-wide blue box recycling program that takes effect January 2026. To join the new Oxford County programs for blue box recycling and/or organic waste collection for these groups, businesses will need to register. Warden Marcus Ryan, Oxford County
“This is good news for curbside collection in Oxford County, and an example of how working together can achieve a better outcome. We’ve been in discussion with Circular Materials for several months to work towards this solution, knowing how important it is for residents at a time of significant change to the waste collection program. We appreciate that Circular Materials was willing to work with us, and we remain focused on our goal of supporting zero waste initiatives that build a circular economy.”
