Back to Search

UPDATE: Oxford County has ended the significant weather event effective Wednesday, December 31 at 10:00 a.m. Thank you for your patience.

With winter road maintenance impacted by weather conditions, residents are advised to avoid travel if possible

Oxford County has declared a significant weather event for County roads effective 4:00 p.m. on Monday, December 29. This means snow plows are unable to keep ahead of drifting snow in rural areas outside of Ingersoll, Woodstock and Tillsonburg boundaries due to high winds and are unable to meet provincial maintenance standards for snow clearing.

Under the Municipal Act Ontario Regulation 239/02 – Minimum Maintenance Standards for Municipal Highways, a Significant Weather Event may be declared by municipalities when minimum standards for winter maintenance activities, such as snow clearing and ice control, cannot be met due to severe, unpredictable or unsafe weather conditions.

Oxford County road crews continue to work to clear roads but with reduced visibility and blowing snow, may be required to suspend operations at times when it is unsafe to continue. Staff will continue to monitor conditions and will end the significant weather event when it is safe to do so and winter road maintenance standards can be achieved.

Waste collection in Zorra Township and Town of Ingersoll is also impacted by weather conditions. Follow Oxford County on social media or visit www.wasteline.ca for updates. The Oxford County Waste Management Facility will close at 4:00 p.m. today but will resume normal operating hours on Tuesday, December 30.

If you must travel, go slow, make sure all your lights are on, and pack a winter vehicle emergency kit. If you are driving behind a snow plow, stay back, be patient, and don’t try to pass. Plowing creates a cloud of snow that can decrease visibility and simulate whiteout conditions.
