Oxford Road 6 and 28 intersection review

Oxford County Council will review a staff report next meeting that considered installing an all-way stop at the intersection of Oxford Road 6 and Oxford Road 28 in Zorra Township. The report follows up on a delegation by local citizens in July 2024 that brought forward safety concerns. After carrying out an independent, third-party review, staff is not recommending an all-way stop at this time as traffic volume and number of collisions do not meet Ontario guidelines and best engineering practices. The report notes there are a number of safety measures in place at the intersection, including a stop sign with mounted red flashing beacons, rumble strips, and additional lighting.

Policy updates for water and wastewater service connections

A number of proposed changes to the County’s policy for connecting water and sewer services are before Council next week. These include:

  • more information about how costs are calculated, demonstrating to property owners that they are only paying for the cost of extending service to their property;
  • extending the deadline to select a financing option from 30 days to 60 days, allowing more time to apply for a deferred payment option or seek other financing arrangements;
  • adding two new payment deferral options in addition to the existing one for financial hardship, which are instances where a property owner has paid to have a private system installed less than 10 years previously or where properties are set back more than 50 metres; and,
  • continued improvements to how the public is engaged and informed on these projects based on feedback from property owners.

Council had asked staff to bring back a report exploring different policy options at the September 11, 2024, meeting.
