POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Supervisor of Environmental Services, cleans bedrooms, bathrooms, hallways, and social and service areas on a routine basis, using a variety of cleaning methods and equipment. Sorts, washes, dries, and identifies all linen and resident clothing. Performs all duties in accordance with the organization's mission, vision, and value statements.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Housekeeping

1.     Clean and disinfect resident rooms and home areas.

2.     Moves furniture.

3.     Washes floors using floor machines; Vacuums.

4.     Collects and disposes of garbage.

5.     Uses various odour controlling agents.

6.     Refills supplies as required, including, chemicals and toilet paper.

7.     Responsible to put away laundry daily to all sections of the home.

8.     Salt sidewalks and shovel snow in the absence of maintenance staff.

9.     Complete minor repairs when able including plunging of toilets.

Laundry

1.     Sorts soiled linen and resident clothing according to material, fabric, and colour.

2.     Washes soiled linen and resident clothing using appropriate chemicals and prescribed time schedules.

3.     Dries linen and resident clothing according to prescribed temperatures and time.

4.     Discards and records linens that are not reusable.

5.     Places linens and resident clothing on linen carts for distribution to care areas and residents.

6.     Identifies all linen and resident clothing by use of marking machine, re-marking if name is unclear.

7.     Ensures chemicals are full and that all hoses have the proper chemicals.

8.     Cleans laundry equipment and adjacent areas.

General

1.     Porters’ residents to the dining room for their meals.

2.     Assisting residents at mealtime, inclusive of feeding.

3.     Report all required repairs to maintenance.

4.     Attends in-service meetings and educational programs as assigned.

5.     Complete work orders as needed.

6.     Maintain and tidy resident closets.

7.     Orientates new staff.

8.     Provide person and family centered care to support the physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs of the resident.

9.     Maintains confidentiality in accordance with all applicable privacy and protections legislation.

10.  Follow IPAC protocols as required.

11.  Performs other related duties, as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Minimum Grade 10 education.
  2. Ability to understand both written and verbal communication.
  3. Good interpersonal skills.
  4. Ability to travel to all three sites.
