POSITION SUMMARY:
Oversees the effective and efficient delivery and organization of Woodingford Lodge nursing services ensuring all legislative, moral and ethical obligations are met and acts as Director of Care under the Fixing Long Term Care Act (FLTCA), 2021. All Woodingford Lodge employees are responsible for supporting the home’s focus on Person and Family-Centred care by promoting and encouraging residents to be an active partner in their health care, the Director of Care directly oversees the Assistant Director of Care and Behavioral Supports Ontario Team.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Plans, directs, coordinates and manages the overall nursing program for residents within the Woodstock location including but not limited to infection control, health and safety, wound management, pain control and palliative care.
- Maintains accurate records and documentation related to nursing services, including Resident Assessment Instrument Minimum Data Set (RAI MDS) as necessary.
- Oversees the homes controls and safekeeping of drugs and narcotics in conjunction with the attending Pharmacy and in accordance with the Narcotic Control Act, the Food and Drug Act and Schedule “C” of the Pharmacy Act. Supervises the drug administration program including the administration of medication by all staff.
- Prepares divisional annual business plan and budget, and regular monitoring of division outcomes and financial performance with support from the Manager of Operations.
- Allocates resources to deliver services and activities to align with, support and promote the successful delivery of departmental and corporate programs and initiatives.
- Oversees the Behavioral Supports Ontario Team providing clinical and nonpharmacological supports for the residents of Woodingford.
- Prepares departmental policies and procedures, work routines, internal and external reports, and any other related correspondence as required.
- Receives and attempts to resolve service related complaints, concerns and questions in a timely and responsive manner, including appropriate investigation into incidents. Refers and escalates to the appropriate individual as necessary.
- Direct and second-removed supervisory responsibilities including hiring, performance management, attendance management, disability management, coaching, labour relations, mentoring and professional development of non-union and unionized nursing staff.
- Ensures compliance with the terms of the Collective Agreements.
- Liaise with residents, family members, the multidisciplinary team, internal and community stakeholders, and the public as necessary and appropriate. Attends and/or chairs various clinical and administrative meetings.
- Performs the responsibilities of this position within the legislative and regulatory standards set out in the applicable Federal, Provincial and/or Municipal statutes.
- Responsible for promoting and supporting the home’s focus on Person and Family-Centred care by promoting and respecting residents in being an active partner of their health care.
- Understanding of role specific health and safety responsibilities, and ensured compliance with internal and external safety policies, procedures, and legislation, including the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- Accountable to the standards of practice established in law by the Ontario College of Nurses.
- Regularly participates in the rotation of Woodingford Lodge management on-call coverage.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR SUCCESS:
- Post-secondary degree in Nursing. Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario. Completion of a certificate/diploma in gerontology studies or long term care management would be an asset.
- Demonstrated management experience in a unionized environment. Experience in a long-term care setting is an asset.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation, statutes and regulations related to Long-Term Care and program specific operations including the Resident’s Bill of Rights, Fixing Long Term Care Act and occupational health and safety.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with internal and external partners to deliver programs, services and outcomes.
- Ability to demonstrate the required competencies for this position in alignment with Oxford County’s competency framework.
- Demonstrated ability to foster teamwork, lead and empower teams and guide effective project management outcomes.
- Valid Ontario driver’s license and a vehicle with insurance is required.
