Road Reconstruction

NOTICE OF CONSTRUCTION

About this projectMap detour
Oxford County is continuing infrastructure improvements to Oxford Road 59 (Wilson Street), with construction expected to begin in April 2023. Construction will take place along Oxford Road 59 (Wilson Street) from Dundas Street to the CN Railway, including Oxford Road 54 (Huron Street) from Adelaide Street to Dundas Street.

Construction will include utility relocations, sanitary sewer replacement, storm sewer repairs and improvements, watermain replacement, curb and gutter replacement, bike lane and sidewalk upgrades, traffic signal and street lighting replacement, and landscaping and restoration.

How will the project impact me?

Property inspections
Before construction begins, the contractor will contact property owners to conduct a pre-condition survey of their property. Participation in this step is voluntary.

Equipment vibrations
Construction equipment can cause vibrations during construction. Please ensure you protect any valuables susceptible to damage.

Traffic control
Work will be completed in two phases: Phase 1 of the Wilson Street project involves Huron Street from Adelaide Street to Dundas Street, including the intersection. Phase 1 will be complete in summer 2023. Detour routes will be provided on Peel Street, Wellington Street and Ingersoll Avenue.

Phase 2 includes the remainder of Wilson Street south of Dundas Street to the CN railway tracks. Phase 2 will be complete in fall 2023. Detour routes will be provided on Henry Street, Wellington Street, and Dundas Street.

Emergency services, school boards and buses will be notified of all road closures and lane restrictions.

Safety
Stay safe and avoid the work area during construction. Respect work zones and obey traffic signs. Maintain a safe distance from construction equipment and vehicles entering and leaving the site.

Private sprinkler systems, landscaping or fencing Please remove all items on Oxford County property in advance of construction. The County is not responsible for damage to private landscaping items located on County property.

Garbage & recycling
If access for waste collection is interrupted by construction, the contractor will collect your bins and containers and take them to a central location for collection. Property owners are asked to mark garbage and recycling containers with their house number so they can be returned to the correct property.

Water interruptions
Residents within the work area can expect both planned and unplanned water interruptions. Every attempt will be made to notify customers in advance.

Lawn restoration
Following construction, the contractor will place new sod on affected properties and water it as needed for 30 days after placement. After the 30 days, the sod maintenance and watering becomes the property owner’s responsibility as it was prior to construction.
