Use FOG cups to keep fats, oils and grease out of the drain

Back to Search

At home or at work, fats, oils and grease (FOG) should never go down the drain.

Oxford County safely treats residential and industrial wastewater that goes down drains and into sewers, but keeping our infrastructure running is everyone’s responsibility. Fats, oils and grease can clog drains, leading to costly plumbing repairs, potentially both for the homeowner and the County, which in turn can impact rates. Industrial users can even face fines under the County’s sewer use by-law.

FOG cups are a great way to dispose of your fats, oils and grease. The cups are degradable to limit the impact on our landfills. To use, pour cooled fats, oils and grease into the cups and store them in your fridge or freezer until the liquids harden. The FOG cups should be bagged and then placed with your garbage for collection.

Oxford County offer FOG cups at no cost to residents at the following locations:

  • Oxford County Administration Building – 21 Reeve Street, Woodstock
  • Oxford County Library branches (all 14 branches)
  • Oxford County Waste Management Facility – 384060 Salford Rd., Salford
  • Township of South-West Oxford office – 312985 Dereham Line, Mt. Elgin
  • Town of Tillsonburg office – 10 Lisgar Ave., Tillsonburg
  • Township of Zorra office – 274620 27th Line (at Hwy. 19)

Motor oil from vehicles or small engines should also never go down any drain, whether in your house, a facility, or outdoors. Please recycle your old motor oil for free at the Oxford County Waste Management Facility or Woodstock EnviroDepot. You can also bring motor oil to your local vehicle repair shop.
