Woodingford Lodge accreditation update

Woodingford Lodge is announcing it has achieved “Accreditation with Commendation” in its first-ever application to Accreditation Canada, which is the second highest level an organization can receive. As part of the accreditation process for long-term care homes, Woodingford Lodge was assessed for 282 standards of practices, meeting 95% of those targets. Moving forward, Woodingford will be assessed every four years to maintain its accreditation status, demonstrating its commitment to quality and safety for all who live and work at the home.

Centralized intake for Ontario Works

County Council will hear an update next council meeting on the transition to centralized intake for Ontario Works applications. Under the new model, which is now in full effect in Oxford County, applications to Ontario Works are made electronically. The County’s Human Services staff continue to work closely with Ontario Works recipients on their individual needs, and with community partners to ensure there is a “no wrong door” for those seeking social services and supports. The new system fully shifts decisions about eligibility to the provincial government, allowing municipalities to focus on managing individual cases.

Development charges public meeting

Oxford County is holding a public meeting as part of the February 12 County Council meeting to share information and receive feedback on the updated development charge policy, by-law and background study. In the addendum to the 2024 study, the County is proposing to remove the non-statutory exemption for industrial buildings and the long-term care charge, among other changes and updates.

Development charges are the fees paid by land developers to help finance the municipal infrastructure and services that support community growth, such as roads, water, wastewater, fire and ambulance, parks and more.
