Tandem Truck / Machine Operator

POSITION DESCRIPTION

POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for operating various machinery including forklift, front end loader, lawn tractor, and telehandler. Responsible for safely driving various vehicles owned by department, such as, roll off truck, vacuum truck, and sewer flushing hydrovac truck. Overtime is occasionally required on weekends or as an extension of the regular workday. Driving biosolids throughout the County.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Performs duties related to truck operations, such as:

    • Hauls grit from Wastewater Treatment Plans (WWTPs) to Waste Management Facility (WMF).

    • Hauls liquid biosolids between Oxford County WWTPs.

    • Hauls dewatered biosolids from Oxford County WWTPs to the Biosolids Centralized Storage Facility (BCSF).

    • Performs regular maintenance duties on vehicles and equipment such as adding oil and water, greasing, cleaning and fueling.

    • Maintains records detailing items such as amount of biosolids hauled and grit removed.

    • Completes all required inspection and safety reports on vehicles and equipment.

Performs duties related to BCSF, such as:

    • Move unloaded biosolids into bays.

    • Perform housekeeping activities using loader or other machinery 

    • Daily emptying of roll off bins for Waste Management at the WMF in Salford.

Performs duties related to grounds maintenance at all WWTPs, such as:

    • Shovel snow. 

    • Cut grass.

    • Maintain buildings, including cleanliness and appearance.

    • Completes a daily time card detailing work done and machinery used.

Performs duties primarily at Woodstock WWTP, such as, but not conclusive:

    • Assists other staff in duties as and when required.

    • Operates forklift and receives deliveries.

Performs duties at all WWTPs, such as:

    • Assisting other staff.
    • Operates forklift and receives deliveries.

Performs other duties as assigned when required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Minimum Grade 12 education or equivalent experience.

  2. Valid Class "D" driver’s license with “Z” endorsement required with an acceptable driving record. Class “A” with “Z” endorsement is an asset. Ability to operate both automatic and manual transmission vehicles.

  3. Required to perform physical work such as lifting, pushing, pulling and carrying various materials, as well as extended periods of sitting while driving. Able to work in confined spaces.

  4. Demonstrated ability to work independently, show initiative, and work collaboratively as a team.

  5. First aid training is an asset.

  6. Requires working knowledge of equipment safety practices and required to be a competent worker as defined by the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

  7. Previous experience operating the above-mentioned equipment is preferred.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  1. Subject to working in all weather conditions.
  2. Required to lift up to 50 pounds.
  3. Exposed to health hazards present in wastewater and biosolids, such as bacteria and viruses.
