Systems and Applications Analyst

POSITION SUMMARY:

As a member of the Information Technology (IT) Team, the Systems and Applications Analyst is responsible for the design, installation and support for servers and server-based applications maintained by Oxford County IT.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Install, configure, and maintain Windows and Linux servers in a hybrid (physical and virtual) environment.
  • Configure and maintain server-based technologies such as Active Directory, Group Policy, Print Servers, and File Servers.
  • Install and configure server-based applications on Windows and Linux servers.
  • Configure, monitor, and troubleshoot Microsoft 365 services including Entra, Exchange, SharePoint, Teams, and OneDrive.
  • Monitor system performance, analyse logs, and identify potential issues to prevent downtime and security risks.
  • Implement new technologies, optimize infrastructure, and improve overall system reliability for supported teams and area municipalities.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation related to server infrastructure and supported services.
  • Assist with IT Support Services queue when required, including documenting technical support requests and related solutions.
  • Perform regular data backups and backup testing.
  • Implementation and support of Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) server infrastructure for supported sites within Oxford County.
  • Provide escalated support for IT Support Analysts within Oxford County IT.
  • Conduct research, provide recommendations, and implement best-in-class technology and security practices.
  • Respond to cybersecurity incidents identified by the Oxford County IT team.
  • Receives and attempts to resolve service-related complaints, concerns and questions in a timely and responsive manner.  Refers and escalates to the appropriate individual as necessary.
  • Understanding of role specific health and safety responsibilities, and ensured compliance with internal and external safety policies, procedures, and legislation, including the Occupational Health and Safety Act. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Post-secondary education in Computer Science and Information Technology or related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting Microsoft desktop operating systems and productivity suites.
  • Demonstrated recent experience administering Windows and Linux based servers.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Competent working knowledge of Microsoft 365, including Entra, Exchange, Teams and SharePoint.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of networking technologies 
  • Thorough troubleshooting and analytical skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to take initiative, work independently, and handle confidential information with discretion and integrity. 
  • Experience supporting Macintosh computers (laptops/workstations) (asset).
  • Previous front-line customer service experience is preferred. 
  • Experience supporting SCADA systems (asset). 
  • Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) certification (asset).
  • Knowledge of relevant trends, best practices and legislation and regulations.
  • Valid Ontario drivers’ license required.
  • An acceptable Criminal Record Check will be required.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Primarily works in an office environment.
  • Travel throughout the County will be required on an as needed basis.  
  • Participate in the after-hours on-call rotation, providing first-level emergency support for Oxford County IT on-call team.
