Scale Operator

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Waste Management Coordinator, works in the landfill scale house.  Greets customers, advises on rules, weighs vehicles, collects required data and fees. Checks works for accuracy of regulatory compliance.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Greets customers on arrival, advises on rules and procedures as necessary and weighs all incoming vehicles (commercial, industrial, private, and institutional).
  • Inputs all information pertaining to load such as type/classification, origin, and vehicle type.
  • Liaises with other on site employees to notify of incoming material loads and to determine most suitable location for load. 
  • First point of contact for all contractors and public coming on site.
  • Performs opening and closing cash procedures including cash reconciliation and preparation of bank deposits at the end of each day. 
  • May perform additional administrative duties, for example answering phones and/or photocopying materials when scheduled or requested.
  • Keeps work area and washroom clean and tidy.
  • Signs receipts for deliveries made to the Landfill and incoming contractors.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Grade 12 or equivalent experience.
  • Strong knowledge of the Oxford County and area municipal geography and boundaries and of the County’s waste management programs.
  • Basic knowledge of computers, related software and basic equipment repairs.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Adaptable to working conditions which will entail outdoor functions in a rural setting.
  • Reliable transportation to work required.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Works in a Kiosk type building. 
  • Works in a fast paced environment requiring considerable multi-tasking.
  • Exposure to loud noises, dirt, dust, odours, fumes, garbage and by-products, inclement weather, and sometimes abusive customers.
  • Required to manage various responsibilities and change priorities quickly while taking direction from multiple individuals.
