Primary Care Paramedic

POSITION SUMMARY:
Paramedics are an innovative and dynamic team who focus on patient care and the well-being of each other. Responsible for responding effectively under pressure while adapting to diverse environments to deliver patient care to Oxford County residents.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Follows the standard of Patient Care, Reports, and Documentation in accordance to Part 5 of the Ambulance Act (Regulation 257/00), as well as internal reporting and documentation requirements.
- Incorporates new and evolving alternate models of care into their practice by:
- Treating patients on the scene as needed and referring (or recommending) appropriate follow-up care to the most appropriate healthcare provider.
- Ensuring patients are transported (if required) to the most appropriate healthcare provider.
- Ensures equipment, vehicle, and patient care supplies are readily available and in working order. Completes all required paperwork and documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
- Provides guidance and support to paramedic students and new paramedics.
- Professional appearance and demeanour while providing patient care to individuals from all backgrounds and abilities. Treat all patients and family members with dignity and compassion.
- Able to reflect and evaluate actions from previous calls and focus on self growth.
- Able to safely perform job-related tasks in accordance with current Paramedic Physical Demands Analysis.
- Liaise with other health care professionals, internal stakeholders, community stakeholders, and members of the public as necessary and appropriate.
- Understanding of role specific health and safety responsibilities, and ensured compliance with internal and external safety policies, procedures, and legislation, including the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- Receives and attempts to resolve service-related complaints, concerns and questions in a timely and responsive manner. Refers and escalates to the appropriate individual as necessary.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Primary Care Paramedics must meet the requirements listed in Part 3: Qualifications of Emergency Medical Attendants and Paramedics – Land Ambulance Services, Section 5 – 8 of the Ambulance Act (Regulation 257/00).
- In summary, this includes:
- Education Requirements.
- Valid Ontario ‘F’ level drivers’ license.
- Vaccination requirements.
- CPR Certified.
- Ability to work as part of a team and maintain professionalism while under pressure.
- Completion of a Physical Abilities Test selected by Oxford County is required.
- An acceptable Vulnerable Sector Record Check will be required.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Frequently driving throughout the County, potentially in inclement weather.
- Exposure to the public and individuals in need, who may demonstrate responsive or potentially threatening behaviours.
- Available to work all shifts, and all days of the week, including holidays.
- Potential exposure to biohazards.
