Maintenance Worker

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Building Forman, inspects, provides service on maintenance and building systems, life systems, building contents and grounds and reports resolution and/or findings to Supervisor in writing.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Inspects, troubleshoots, and provides routine maintenance on building systems, including but not limited to plumbing, heating, HVAC and other mechanical systems and equipment.
  2. Inspects and monitors life systems. 
  3. Reports both verbally and in writing, as required, on work routines, system failures, and problems encountered. 
  4. Provides preventative maintenance and repairs to buildings, equipment, and grounds. 
  5. Makes minor electrical repairs using the Lockout/Tag out procedure that has been provided and documented by the Building Forman.
  6. Assists other departments as able within the scope of the maintenance department which includes, but is not limited to, assisting with heavy lifts, transporting goods and supplies throughout the Home, furniture set-ups, stocking shelves, and other related duties as assigned.
  7. Monitors and adjusts water system chemical contents.
  8. Orders supplies and acts as a Receiving Department, delivering items to specified areas.
  9. Provides waste removal and recycling functions for the Home.
  10. Drives truck to deliver and pickup items pertaining to the Home. 
  11. Attends in-service and educational programs as discussed with Lead hand and/or the building Forman.
  12. Orientates and trains new staff. 
  13. After hours work as needed or assigned.
  14. Provide person and family centered care to support physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs of the resident. 
  15. Performs other related duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Minimum grade 12 with technical education/experience.
  2. Demonstrated mechanical aptitude. 
  3. Ability to read and understand blueprints. 
  4. Knowledgeable in building management systems. Specific knowledge of plumbing, electrical systems and/or HVAC is a definite asset.
  5. Valid Ontario Driver’s license and a reliable vehicle with insurance.
  6. Good interpersonal skills, basic computer skills and ability to understand written verbal
  7. Minimum 2 years’ experience in construction and building maintenance
  8. Boom/Scissor lift training an asset
  9. Building Environmental systems operator course an asset

WORKING CONDITIONS 

  1. May require outside work for extended periods in inclement weather, at all Woodingford sites.

  2. Handles chemicals in accordance with WHMIS standards.
  3. Requires frequent physical efforts such as lifting, pushing, pulling of heavy objects, working in loud areas, confined spaces, energized equipment, at heights, etc.
  4. Ability to work independently and able to respond, react and complete work in a suitable manner to time sensitive situations.
