POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Systems Librarian, the Interlibrary Loan Technician provides system-wide support for interlibrary loan services.
The Interlibrary Loan Technician also provides collections support services and customer service at Library Headquarters.
All Oxford County Library (OCL) employees are responsible for supporting the Library’s Mission, Vision and Values.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Manages the day-to-day operations of the interlibrary loan service, including receiving and processing requests from Oxford County Library customers and those from other libraries using the Ontario Library Service’s ILL databases.
• Stays up-to-date on current ILL practices and serves as a system resource for Interlibrary Loan by providing training and procedure information to all public service staff and customers.
• Ensures accurate bibliographic information for incoming and outgoing ILL material
• Notifies customers regarding status, availability or access information for requests through ILLO service as needed.
• Investigates and resolves problems related to interlibrary loan, including cancellation requests and other issues.
• Advises the Systems Librarian about changes to the Ontario Library Service (OLS) policies and procedures and provides input on Oxford County Library procedure updates as required.
• Maintains annual statistics used for internal and external reporting on the Interlibrary loan service.
• Maintains accurate financial records related to interlibrary loan materials, including tracking of statements and reconciliation of accounts for use with corporate credit cards for ILLO purposes.
• Provides collection information to Librarian Team including information on highly borrowed material and items that should be reviewed for addition or deletion from the collection.
• May provide cataloguing, processing and collection maintenance (such as book repairs), under the direction of the Systems Librarian.
• Receives, sorts and manages incoming deliveries to Library Headquarters.
• Acts as a backup to other Library Technician positions within the system.
• Provides internal and external customer support at Library Headquarters including, member registration and circulation support, phone support, sorting mail and fulfilling branch supply requests.
• Maintains positive relationships and collaborates with partner ILL library systems and the Ontario Library Service (OLS)
• Supports system-wide collections projects under the direction of the Systems Librarian
• Performs other duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Post-secondary education in Library studies with an emphasis on cataloguing and technical services. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
• Demonstrated experience working in a library environment. Experience with interlibrary loan systems considered an asset.
• Computer proficiency and knowledge of integrated library systems, the Dewey decimal system, indexing and cataloguing of both print and digital collections are required.
• Excellent organizational, communication and customer service skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
• Capable of instructing staff and patrons with varying degrees of technology experience
• Valid Ontario driver’s license required. Must be able to travel to multiple locations.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
• Works in an office / library environment. Hours of work include weekdays, though evening and weekend shift coverage may be requested.
• Physical activity including lifting heavy boxes, bending and squatting, pushing carts of books/materials, and sitting/standing for extended periods of time.
