Disability Management Specialist

POSITION SUMMARY:
Ensures effective and efficient delivery of Oxford County’s human resources services relating to disability management, attendance management and employee wellness.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Delivers the following human resources services:
- Disability Management
- Attendance Management
- Employee Wellness
- Attends to all aspects of employee attendance, including, but not limited to Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB), short term and long-term disability claim management and Employment Standards Act leaves.
- Develops, implements, and monitors effectiveness of return to work and accommodation plans for employees with occupational and non-occupational injuries and/or illnesses.
- Provides advice, information, and assistance on disability and attendance management matters to management and employees, including, but not limited to, collective agreement and policy interpretation, and legislative compliance.
- Liaises with employees, management, union representatives, WSIB, treating practitioners, long term disability benefits carrier, OMERS, the Ministry of Labour, Human Rights, consulting firms, EFAP provider and legal counsel.
- Builds strong relationships with management and employees to foster and maintain a positive workplace culture.
- Monitors formal and informal departmental attendance support programs.
- Participates on employee wellness committees and leads wellness programs and initiatives.
- Prepares reports, correspondence and other documents as required. Maintains appropriate records using disability management software system.
- Escalates complex disability management matters to Senior Coordinator, Disability Management & Employee Health.
- Reviews the effectiveness of programs and provides updates to the Senior Coordinator, Disability Management & Employee Health.
- Establishes and tracks key human resources performance indicators.
- Completes projects as required and performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Post-secondary education in human resources and/or disability management certificate.
- Demonstrated experience in disability management in a unionized setting.
- Municipal and/or broader public sector experience an asset.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Labour Relations, Human Rights, Occupational Health and Safety, Workplace Safety and Insurance and Employment Standards Acts and regulations.
- Proven organizational and interpersonal skills with the ability to deal effectively with sensitive and confidential information.
- Knowledge of Parklane Systems experience an asset.
- Valid Ontario driver’s license is required.
