Computer & Network Support Technician

POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsible for delivering front line support to all information technology systems including network, computers, telephone, mobile devices and all related peripherals. Attends to the needs of all clients and ensures that all problems are attended to promptly with the least amount of service interruption. Assists with the planning, set up, and configuration of local and wide area networks
All technicians will not necessarily be responsible for every task in the list below..
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists to maintain Local and Wide Area Networks by following established troubleshooting procedures to determine the sources of the problem, and making adjustments and repairs as necessary.
- Assists to design new network connections for new and existing clients.
- Installs additional network wiring when required. Repairs or replaces any network components that are needed.
- Assists in the research, analysis, development, testing, implementation, maintenance and documentation of new and existing systems to support various divisions, services and operations within Oxford County and municipal partners.
- Configures hardware and software for new workstations.
- Maintains VoIP Telephone system and provision of telephone services at various County facilities and municipal partners.
- Maintains Wide Area Network (WAN) issues including Firewalls (Security), the Internet and e-mail gateways including virus and SPAM detection and programming of WAN Switches
- Maintains corporate servers including corporate applications running on those servers administering patches, upgrades, data backups and restorations as directed by Network Administrator.
- Maintains desktop computers by consulting with the users, and implementing repairs to hardware and software when required as directed by Manager of Information Technology.
- Implements, installs, and maintains software.
- Maintains existing and installs new peripheral equipment.
- Maintains network monitoring to detect when problems occur.
- Provides 24 hour support as directed by the Manager of Technology Services.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Requires a 2 year college diploma in a computer related field and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Requires certifications as appropriate such as A+ or MCSE.
- Training and experience with related computer software.
- Knowledge and experience with Nortel VoIP telephone equipment.
- Knowledge and experience with installation, setup and configuration of WAN routers and switches.
- Knowledge of designing and configuring network equipment.
- Knowledge in configuring and maintaining computer hardware and peripheral equipment.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Requires valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Works in an office or computer lab environment.
- Physical activity including working inside drop ceilings to run cables.
- Some heavy lifting of computer equipment
- May occasionally be required to work in confined spaces.
- Some after hours and weekend work is required.
- Some travel required.
