POSITION SUMMARY:
Supports and works with the Director of Care to plan, coordinate, and supervise the effective and efficient delivery of Woodingford Lodge nursing services to align to the Fixing Long Term Care Act (FLTCA), 2021. All Woodingford Lodge employees are responsible for supporting the home’s focus on Person and Family-Centred care by promoting and encouraging residents to be an active partner in their health care, the ADOC oversees all nursing staff.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Coordinates and supervises the overall nursing program for residents, reporting to and consulting with the Director of Care as required. Maintains close liaison with all facets of the homes operations in carrying out the goals and objectives of Nursing Services.
- Assists in development and interpretation of Nursing philosophy, goals and objectives, policies and procedures, as directed by all legislative acts applicable to long term care.
- Assists in the implementation and subsequent review of Nursing policy and procedures as necessary in consultation with the Director of Care.
- Direct supervisory responsibilities including hiring, performance management, attendance management, disability management, coaching, labour relations, mentoring and professional development of non-union and unionized nursing staff. • Responsible for encouraging and facilitating the participation of all Nursing staff in programs of continuing education.
- Ensures compliance with the terms of the Collective Agreements.
- Reviews assessments and documentation of resident care on a daily, monthly, and quarterly basis to meet Ministry of Long Term Care standards and College of Nurses requirements.
- Establishes and maintains communication between supervisors, staff, residents, and families.
- Evaluates and implements systems that ensure knowledge is applied to care needs and appropriate decisions are made.
- Provides an environment that promotes ethical care delivery with a multidisciplinary approach.
- Performs related duties as assigned and attends and/or chairs various clinical meetings and administrative meetings.
- Represents the nursing department and Woodingford Lodge to all partners who provide supportive services to residents and families.
- Participates in the Continuous Quality Improvement Programs and care conferences.
- Maintains accurate records and documentation related to nursing services, including Resident Assessment Instrument Minimum Data Set (RAI MDS) as necessary and updating care plans.
- Implements and monitors controls and safekeeping of drugs and narcotics in conjunction with the attending Pharmacy and in accordance with the Narcotic Control Act, the Food and Drug Act and Schedule “C” of the Pharmacy Act. Supervises the drug administration program including the administration of medication by all staff.
- In conjunction with the Director of Care, prepares departmental policies and procedures, work routines, internal reports, and any other related correspondence as required.
- Receives and attempts to resolve service related complaints, concerns and questions in a timely and responsive manner, including appropriate investigation into incidents. Refers and escalates to the Director of Care as necessary.
- Liaise with residents, family members, the multidisciplinary team, internal and community stakeholders, and the public as necessary and appropriate. Attends and/or chairs various clinical meetings.
- Responsible for promoting and supporting the home’s focus on Person and Family Centred care by promoting and respecting residents in being an active partner of their health care. Accountable to the standards of practice established in law by the Ontario College of Nurses.
- Regularly participates in the rotation of Woodingford Lodge management on-call coverage.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR SUCCESS:
- Post-secondary education in Nursing. Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario. Completion of a certificate/diploma in gerontology studies, long term care management or DOC/ADOC Certificate would be an asset.
- Demonstrated management experience in a unionized environment. Experience in a long-term care setting is an asset.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation, statutes and regulations related to Long-Term Care including the Resident’s Bill of Rights, Fixing Long Term Care Act and occupational health and safety.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with internal and external partners to deliver programs, services and outcomes.
- Demonstrated ability to foster teamwork, lead and empower teams and guide effective project management outcomes.
- Valid Ontario driver’s license and a vehicle with insurance is required.
