Development Planner: $48.49/hr - $60.61/hr ($88,251.80– $110,310.20)/Annually

Senior Development Planner: $56.61/hr - $70.76/hr ($103,030.20– $128,783.20)/Annually

Hours of work  35/week

POSITION SUMMARY

Development Planner:

Assigned to an Area Municipality, the Development Planner supports County and Area Municipal development review function, including the coordination, review, and processing of all development applications made under the Planning Act and Condominium Act. May also assist with land use policy development, including project managing certain related initiatives at the Area Municipal level (e.g. secondary planning), as required. Prepares and presents planning reports and recommendations to County and Area Municipal Councils. 

Additionally, provides professional planning expertise to, and acts as a liaison between, the County and local municipalities with respect to Provincial and County land use planning policies, goals and objectives. Responds to development planning inquiries and conducts pre-consultations for all forms of planning applications.

Senior Development Planner:

Assigned to an Area Municipality, the Senior Development Planner provides senior level planning expertise in support of the County and Area Municipal development review function. This includes coordination, review, and processing of the full range of development applications under the Planning Act and Condominium Act (i.e. from routine to major/complex) and leading a broad range of planning related projects and initiatives (e.g. CIPs, secondary plans, area studies, zoning review etc.) at the Area Municipal level.

Responsible for oversight of certain development planning functions and assists with supervision of Development Planners, as directed. May also assist with Official Plan policy review and development initiatives, from time to time.

 

 QUALIFICATIONS:

Development Planner:

  • Post-secondary education in Land Use Planning, Geography or related field.   
  • Registered Professional Planner, or eligible for full membership, with the Ontario Professional Planners Institute and Canadian Institute of Planning.
  • Demonstrated land use planning experience in a municipal environment is preferred.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Highly developed research and analytical skills and report writing capability.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, interpersonal, negotiation and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Ontario Land Tribunal policies, practices, and decisions.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team environment and independently.
  • Ability to interact harmoniously and diplomatically with the public, development industry representatives and elected officials.
  • Knowledge of and experience using Microsoft Office and Geographic Information System software or applications.
  • Valid Ontario driver’s license and the ability to travel as required.

Senior Development Planner:

  • Degree in Land Use Planning, Geography, or a related field.
  • Registered Professional Planner, or eligible for full membership in Canadian Institute of Planning and the Ontario Professional Planners Institute.
  • Demonstrated senior level land use planning and project management experience in a municipal environment, including experience with all development related processes and applications under the Planning Act, managing large and/or complex development proposals, and overseeing a range of planning related projects/studies.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet tight deadlines, while managing multiple projects with varying degrees of complexity.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, interpersonal, negotiation and presentation skills.
  • Knowledge of and experience using Microsoft Office and Geographic Information System software or applications.
  • Valid Ontario driver’s license required and the ability to travel as required
