   Handout: Short-term recommendations

To strategically prepare for growth and to enhance the operations and safety of the existing roadway network at Punkeydoodles Corners, Oxford County has retained RC Spencer Associates Inc. to explore short, medium and long-term geometric and traffic control improvements at the intersection.

The purpose of the study is to quantify and qualify existing and horizon traffic conditions with respect to various traffic operations or safety metrics, such as traffic volumes, levels of service, delay, queuing, collisions, speeds, sight lines, and illumination. The identification of land acquisition (to accommodate recommended long-term improvements) will also be addressed.

Overall, the outcome of this study will guide decisions regarding:

  • Industry best practices for the design of roadways and intersections;
  • Hierarchy of area roadway classifications (i.e., local, collector, and arterial roadways);
  • Anticipated growth and increased demand on area roadways and intersections;
  • Geometric layout of recommended short-term and long-term improvements;
  • Build-out of recommended intersection improvements (or potential closures);
  • Coordination and relocation of potentially conflicting utilities;
  • Lighting requirements to accommodate the short-term and long-term improvements;
  • Land acquisition requirements (to accommodate long-term improvements);
  • Cost and budgeting of intersection / roadway improvements.

An important part of this study is consultation with the public, stakeholders, and agency partners. We want to hear from you on the issues and opportunities that you see for Punkeydoodles Corners.

The upcoming in-person Public Information Centre (PIC) is specifically intended to gather public input and to present findings to date and preliminary recommendations of the study. At any time during this study, you can provide comments, questions, and concerns to the project team. A Public Information Centre will be held:

Thursday, October 5, 2023, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
