A program for Oxford County residents in “crisis need” of long-term care placement

The program supports community residents as they await a long-term care bed for themselves or their loved ones, decreasing the need for acute healthcare services and easing the process of moving from the community into a long-term care facility.

This afternoon, Oxford County MPP Ernie Hardeman joined Oxford County Warden Marcus Ryan and representatives from Ontario Health at a ribbon-cutting ceremony to officially open the doors for the program, which will begin welcoming eligible participants on Monday.

The Adult Day Program, which is an extension of Woodingford’s innovative Family Transition Program, offers full-day programming, companionship, and supervised care. Participants can engage in activities tailored to their cognitive, social, emotional, and physical needs, including functional fitness, wellness programs, reminiscing/discussion groups, arts and crafts, educational and interactive games, outdoor programs, music therapy, entertainment, pet therapy and multi-aged programs.

Caregivers of participants have an opportunity for respite relief and are also eligible for on-site or virtual support from staff well-trained in dementia strategies and interventions and prepared to help families cope within the community. The Adult Day Program is a pilot project supported by an investment from Ontario Health through the Local Priorities Fund.
