Oxford County is reminding residents that it doesn't offer in-home water quality testing after being alerted to a potential scam by a concerned citizen.

The resident alerted staff after they received a call from someone claiming to perform water-testing services on behalf of Oxford County.

Neither Oxford County nor its area municipalities currently perform in-home water testing, and County employees will not attempt to sell residents any products to improve water quality.

All municipal water is stringently treated and rigorously tested to meet Ontario's drinking water quality guidelines. Residents who receive a call from someone offering free in-home water testing or assessment should know that these individuals do not represent Oxford County.

If you suspect someone is falsely representing an Oxford County employee, you can verify their identity by:

  • Calling Oxford County at 519-539-9800 or 1-800-755-0394 to inquire about the work
  • Requesting the individual's Oxford County identification (in person)
  • Sending an email to customerservice@oxfordcounty.ca.

If you think you are the victim of a scam, please notify your local police service.
