Oxford Local History Day poster for IngersollOxford County Library (OCL) is proud to host the third annual Oxford Local History Day in person this year on Saturday, April 22, 2023.  

Oxford Local History Day is a chance to recognize and discover the stories and moments that paved the way for Oxford County as we know it. OCL branches in Ingersoll and Tillsonburg will mark the occasion with engaging presentations from local historians. Those in attendance will also experience collections, exhibits, and featured stories from archives, museums, and heritage groups around Oxford County.

Oxford Local History Day 

Saturday, April 22, 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.

 

Featured presentations planned for Ingersoll include “The Lost Architecture of Ingersoll.” Join Museum Curator Scott Gillies as he explores the buildings that once graced Ingersoll’s neighbourhoods and are now lost to the mists of time. Also, don’t miss Western University Associate History Professor Cody Groat as he delves into “A Community 10,000 Years in the Making. This presentation offers a brief history of Indigenous settlement to the present day and cultural change over time.

Oxford Local History Day

Saturday, April 22, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. 

 

The Tillsonburg branch will feature exhibits and displays from the Annandale National Historic Site, Oxford County Archives, and the Ingersoll Cheese and Agricultural Museum. The event includes a full day of presentations, starting at 11 a.m. with “Tillsonburg’s First Lady of the Log House: Nancy Barker Tillson. Local historian Laurel Beechey will tell the stories of Nancy Barker-Tillson and George Tillson and how they came to be the founders of Tillsonburg.
