Long-Term Care Committee of Management

County Council receives the inaugural update from the Long-Term Care Committee of Management. The Q1 2022 report focuses on the state of Long-Term Care in Ontario, highlighting aspects relevant to Woodingford Lodge, including the ongoing challenges of COVID-19, staffing and rising food costs. Ontario’s Long-Term Care Homes Act requires Council to appoint a committee to oversee the management of any municipally-operated Long-Term Care homes. Committee of Management provides an opportunity for Woodingford Lodge staff to provide timely, informative updates, including legislative changes, to County Council while meeting legislated requirements.

Annual waste management reports

Public Works brings forward the 2021 Annual Waste Management Reports, which show the County’s facilities and operations performed well in 2021 and general compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements. The reports indicate that approximately 86,100 tonnes of waste were processed and managed at the County’s waste management facility, a decrease of 10,500 tonnes from 2020. Based on current waste diversion activities, the County achieved an overall landfill waste diversion rate of approximately 43% in 2021. Annual waste diversion highlights included recycling of 8,570 tonnes of blue box material, 11 tonnes of bulk Styrofoam and five tonnes of plastic film, and processing over 18,800 tonnes of leaf and yard waste into marketable compost. The County landfill has a remaining service life of roughly 29 to 34 years based on current rates of waste generation and non-residential waste out-of-County exporting.

Updates to agricultural policies

Community Planning staff will present a proposed draft amendment to the Official Plan to update the County’s agricultural policies during a public meeting at County Council. The draft amendment incorporates revisions based on the feedback received through the consultation process on the draft agricultural policies that has been underway since last fall. The proposed updates are primarily intended to ensure the policies are consistent with Provincial legislation, plans, policies and guidelines, as required by the Planning Act, and ensure they continue to reflect local planning goals and objectives. Planning staff will be reviewing and considering any further feedback arising from the public meeting and bringing a final draft of the amendment back for County Council consideration at a future meeting.
