Draft 2024 Transportation Master Plan

The Draft 2024 Transportation Master Plan is before County Council next week, laying out Oxford County’s strategic roadmap for multi-modal transportation infrastructure and services through to 2046. Through various studies, research, data collections, and two extensive public consultation phases started in 2022, the draft plan puts forward strategies to address existing and future needs for:

  • the County’s road network;
  • active transportation, for instance cycling and pedestrian routes;
  • goods movement, such as rail freight, trucking, etc.;
  • people movement, e.g., commuting infrastructure;  and,
  • transportation system sustainability and new technologies, such as electric or autonomous vehicles.

On Council approval, the Draft 2024 Transportation Master Plan will be posted for public comment as part of the 45-day review period for the study’s Notice of Completion, serving as the final stage of public consultation. Although it considers a more than 20-year window for action, the master plan is intended to be revisited and updated on a five-year schedule. Draft 2024 Water and Wastewater Master Plan

County Council receives the Draft 2024 Water and Wastewater Master Plan on July 12, the strategy document that identifies the water and wastewater infrastructure needed to accommodate Oxford County’s projected population and employment growth to 2046.

The Draft 2024 Water and Wastewater Master Plan brings forward strategies that identify how and where the County will optimize existing infrastructure; explore new well supplies; expand water/wastewater treatment plants; extend water distribution and wastewater collection systems; build additional system redundancy; continue to employ water conservation and source water protection; and introduce sewer system inflow and infiltration reduction.

The draft master plan will be posted for public comment for 45 days as part of the study’s Notice of Completion, marking the final phase of community consultation for the project. Moving forward, the plan is intended to be updated on a five-year schedule. For more information or to review the draft plan when posted, visit www.oxfordcounty.ca/wwwmp.

10-Year Housing and Homelessness Plan

With Oxford County’s current 10-Year Shelter Plan reaching the end of its term in 2024, County staff is seeking authorization to start the process of building a new plan to address housing and homelessness in our communities. The plan will seek input from community partners and the general public and also consider the work and recommendations put forward by the community-developed 100% Housed Plan in 2019.

Oxford County’s current shelter plan focuses on five key areas: increasing the affordable rental housing supply; preserving and optimizing existing housing stock; reducing chronic homelessness; increasing housing with related supports; and increasing rent supplement units in the community. Under the Housing Services Act, municipalities must develop 10-Year Housing and Homelessness Plans to identify local objectives and targets and propose actions to meet those objectives.
