The County of Oxford will be accepting electronic applications during the month of December for summer student positions. Summer employment opportunities begin in May, 2020, and last until the end of August, 2020. Please read the requirements below and send completed applications to We thank all applicants for their interest, however only those candidates selected for interviews will be contacted.

To apply for any summer student positions, you must be:

  • Legally able to work in Canada
  • Currently enrolled in full-time studies in a post-secondary program
  • Returning to a full-time post-secondary program in the fall of 2020.

Returning Students

If you are a student who previously worked for Oxford County and still meet the criteria above, please send an email to with the following information:

  • Your first and last name
  • The department that you worked in and the name of your previous supervisor
  • If applicable - Do you still have an acceptable driver’s abstract?
  • Are you interested in returning to the same position you previously had?

Returning students will receive a follow up email from Human Resources.

Available Departments

There are a variety of Departments who are looking to hire summer students for 2020, so please read the below carefully and only apply for the positions that are of interest to you.

Public Works

Transportation - Wage: $16/hr. General Labourers are required at all 4 Patrols in Springford, Highland, Drumbo and Woodstock.

  • Shifts: Monday-Thursday, 6:00am-4:00pm
  • Working at various locations throughout Oxford County
  • G Licence required (and a clean driver’s abstract)
  • Job duties: Using weed eaters, traffic control (flagging), road maintenance, sign repair, washing vehicles, cleaning the shop, painting.   Working indoors and outdoors.

Water + Waste Water Services - Wage: $16/hr

  • Shifts: Monday-Friday, 7:30am-3:30pm
  • Working at various locations throughout Oxford County
  • G Licence required (and a clean driver’s abstract)
  • Job duties: Fire hydrant maintenance, weed trimming, traffic control, completing excel spreadsheets, assisting staff with a variety of duties. Working indoors and outdoors.

Facilities - Wage: $16/hr

  • Shifts: Monday-Friday, 7:00am-3:30pm
  • Working at various locations throughout Oxford County
  • G Licence required (and a clean driver’s abstract)
  • Job duties: Daily repairs to buildings and properties, pickup and deliver supplies, painting, picking up debris, inspecting properties. Working indoors and outdoors.

Waste Management (Environmental) - Wage: $16/hr

  • Shifts: Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm
  • Located in Saltford at the Waste Management Facility
  • G Licence required (and a clean driver’s abstract)
  • Job duties: Lawn maintenance, painting, litter picking, deliveries, driving small to medium sized equipment (zero turn lawnmower and tractor mower).  Working mostly outdoors. Note: This position may require you to come into contact with non-threatening wildlife, such as snakes and mice.


Human Services - Wage: $16/hr

  • Shifts: Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:00pm or 8:30am-4:30pm
  • Located in Woodstock
  • G Licence preferred
  • Job duties: Clerical and general office duties, including using office equipment, filing, Microsoft experience, focus on confidentiality.  Working indoors.

Tourism.- Wage: $16/hr

  • Shifts: Vary, but must be available Monday-Sunday.
  • Valid licence and personal vehicle is required to travel throughout Oxford County
  • Job duties: Visitor information at Kiosk or events, mail enquiries, social media, newsletters, writing for the web. Working indoors and outdoors.
  • The ideal candidate will have an interest in marketing/tourism, and a passion for Oxford County

Public Works : Facilities Administration Co-op. Wage: $18/hr

  • Shifts: Monday-Friday, 7:30am-4:30pm
  • Working at various locations throughout Oxford County
  • G Licence required (and a clean driver’s abstract)
  • Job duties: Assisting with the overall management of County owned facilities and properties. Preference for candidates who are enrolled in Facilities Management or a related discipline. A solid understanding of building components and systems, and proficiency in Microsoft Office including excel is required.  Working indoors and outdoors.

Note: Shift schedules may vary due to business requirements.
