
Geographic Information System (GIS) is a computer-based tool for mapping geographical features and associated data in order to analyze and assess real-world problems.
Our GIS staff build and maintain spatial datasets and applications, conducts GIS projects, and publishes maps.
What is it used for at the County?
- Management of building permits, inspection tracking, and permit status monitoring
- Verification of property ownership and 911 Addresses
- Maintaining transportation networks for effective routing and transportation analysis
- Gathering information about buildings, properties and the local environment to evaluate land development proposals
- Producing maps for county and municipal staff as well as the general public
- Maintaining inventories of land (eg vacant land, commercial/industrial land) and evaluating municipal servicing capacities
- Creation of mailing labels and lists for public notification of planning applications and public works projects
