International Renewable Energy Academy coming to Oxford

Several Oxford County sites will be hosting York University’s International Renewable Energy Academy (IREA) next week. The academy, which focuses on experiential learning, will be using Oxford County (Ontario’s first community committed to achieving 100% renewable energy) as a model of community-based renewable energy project development.

The International Renewable Energy Academy runs June 19-23 and will be in Oxford for three days, starting on June 21. The IREA program brings together world-class experts, practitioners and future leaders who are involved in renewable energy, energy security and community-based projects.

There is still an opportunity for Oxford County residents interested in renewable energy to join the County-hosted portion. More information and registration details are available on the International Renewable Energy Academy website.

The public is also invited to a PechaKucha-like event on Thursday, June 22 at 7:00 p.m. at the Woodstock Art Gallery.

Other academy highlights include:

  • RETScreen introduction and training at York University. RETScreen is clean energy management software that models solar and wind projects
  • Visit to solar EV charging station at York University Campus
  • Tours of Woodstock solar site and Oxford Community Wind Farm
  • Presentations and discussions on International Renewable Energy strategies and projects
