County comment on VIA high-frequency rail proposal

Oxford County Administration is seeking Council’s approval to appeal to federal and provincial levels of government to carefully consider the risks of bringing high-frequency rail (HFR) to the Toronto-Ottawa-Montreal corridor. The County, supported by rail transportation consultant Greg Gormick, is concerned that VIA Rail’s HFR proposal will further contribute to the decline of VIA passenger rail service in southwestern Ontario and elsewhere.

Oxford County 2017 credit rating

County Council will receive a report on September 27 confirming Oxford County’s AA+ credit rating and stable outlook. The Standard & Poor’s annual rating is based on the County’s healthy liquidity, robust budgetary performance, and very low debt burden. The credit rating gives the County more opportunities to invest funds under the terms of Ontario’s Municipal Act.
