Oxford County Road Supervisors Association receives Training and Education award
Award recognizes group training session coordinated on behalf of Oxford County municipalities
The Oxford County Road Supervisors Association was presented with the 2014 local Training and Education award by the Association of Ontario Road Supervisor’s at the Annual General Meeting held during the Ontario Good Road Conference in Toronto recently.
This award is in recognition for group training sessions coordinated on behalf of the municipalities in Oxford County. Of the 31 associations across the province, Oxford County was the sole recipient of this award.
The local Oxford Service Sharing Committee holds yearly winter maintenance training for approximately 140 full- and part-time snow plow operators within the County of Oxford. This committee arranges for other various joint training throughout the year as well.
The Oxford County Service Sharing Committee is comprised of the eight lower tier municipalities along with the County. This committee was over 15 years ago with a mandate to work cooperatively, share resources and provide cost effective services throughout Oxford County.
The group meets monthly to coordinate joint tendering and staff training, and discuss new products, market trends and common issues dealt with by the various road authorities. Savings have been realized with joint tendering for purchases of commodities such as road signs and post, culverts, crack sealing, paving, winter sand and salt, liquid deicers and dust suppressant.
