Projects for “Intake 2” of modernization funding

A Council report on March 10 brings forward proposed projects to be undertaken with Ontario’s “Intake 2,” or second round, of municipal modernization funding. The total budget for the proposed projects is $661,326, of which $140,714 would be offset from County reserves.

The Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing first announced municipal modernization funding in March 2019 to help small and rural municipalities modernize, or upgrade, how they deliver services and seek efficiencies to reduce future costs of those services. Applications for Intake 2 funding are due to the Ministry this month and projects must be completed by fall 2022.

Last year, five of the County’s nine municipal wastewater systems achieved compliance ratings of 100%, two received ratings of 99%, and the remaining two received 98% and 97%. The County also undertook solar power and energy optimization projects at three wastewater treatment plants in 2020 to lower energy consumption at those sites.

Through continued municipal wastewater regulatory compliance and continuous improvement initiatives, Oxford County effectively manages wastewater generated by over 70,000 residents and businesses in a safe and environmentally responsible manner.
