Tillsonburg Public Library receives federal funding for renovations
Library receives $276,723 in upgrades from the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund

There’s good news for the library in Tillsonburg. Dave MacKenzie, Member of Parliament for Oxford, announced today the facility will receive $276,723 in upgrades thanks to the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).

Mackenzie made the announcement on behalf of the Honourable Gary Goodyear, Minister of State for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario).

“This is great news for our community and will go a long way toward providing a rejuvenated library facility and enhanced services for our residents,” said Tillsonburg Mayor John Lessif.

Tillsonburg joined the Oxford County Library system on January 1, 2013 and is currently operating from a temporary location at 164 Broadway Street, Unit 6, to enable renovations at the Library Lane location.

“The existing library building does not meet Ontario Building Code requirements in several areas,” explained Oxford County Warden Don McKay. “So we’ll be addressing those issues, as well as making the facility more accessible with barrier-free washrooms.”

Other planned improvements include insulating exterior walls, replacing windows and replacing the flooring, paint and ceiling tiles.

In terms of services, the renovated branch will feature a state-of-the-art technology lab, quiet study room as well as a 410 sq. ft. addition dedicated to local history.

“We’ve had some great conversations with library patrons about what they’d like to see in their library and will be working hard to include as many features as possible,” adds Oxford County Library CEO Lisa Miettinen. “Library visitors can expect to see more cozy places to read, a hot beverage bar and a children’s section filled with toys and interactive educational activities.”

“This funding will certainly assist the County in providing a high quality library facility to the residents of the Tillsonburg area,” said Margaret Lupton, Chair of the Oxford County Library Board. “We’re all looking forward to seeing the finished product.”
