ODAC NEWS: Three, two, one, action! Oxford County youth encouraged to submit videos for a chance to win $300

ODAC to announce winning videos at Youth Film Festival on May 18

Three, two, one, action! Video-savvy youth have the chance to win $300 by creating and submitting a video tackling a tough topic – the effects of drug or substance use.

Young people aged 14 to 24 across Oxford County are being invited by the Oxford Drug Awareness Committee (ODAC) to make and submit videos that illustrate the effects of substance use relating to one of four topics:

  • Overdose
  • Alcohol
  • Marijuana
  • Driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol

The videos which should be kept to 3-miuntes or less can be created using any kind of production method desired, including but not limited to live-action, animation and claymation.

Winning videos will be announced at the Youth Film Festival Celebration to be held at the Oxford County Administration Building (21 Reeve St., Woodstock) on May 18, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The top-rated videos will also be shown at the Woodstock Art Gallery on May 31, 2017. Prize amounts in the form of a credit card gift card will be awarded as follows:

  • 1st: $300
  • 2nd: $200
  • 3rd: $100

Video entries will be judged by a panel including members of the Oxford Drug Awareness Committee and School-Within-A-College students.

March Break is a great time for interested young people to get started on videos, as the deadline for entries is April 28, 2017. Video entries must be submitted with completed consent forms for all individuals included in the video. Completed video submissions and consent forms can be dropped off at Oxford County Public Health (93 Graham St., Woodstock), or youth can send completed consent forms along with a link to their uploaded YouTube video to A copy of the Youth Film Festival video submission rules and consent form can be obtained at
