What are bed bugs?

Bed bugs are insects with oval-shaped bodies and no wings. Bed bugs usually bite at night and will bite all over, especially around the face, neck, upper torso, arms and hands.

There are currently no known cases of infectious disease transmitted to people by bed bug bites.

What does a bite look like?

Like other places around the world, Ontario is seeing a growing number of bed bug infestation reports. The Ministry of Health & Long-Term Care and Ontario’s health units are working together to educate people, facility managers and landlords on how to identify bed bug infestations and what actions they can take.

If you think you have a bed bug infestation, please call Oxford County Public Health and ask to speak to a Public Health Inspector: 519-539-9800 or 1-800-755-0394.
