Meal planning tips

Plan for three meals and small snacks each day. Skipping a meal, especially breakfast, will make it difficult to get all the nutrients you need each day.

Choose foods from at least three of the four food groups at each meal.


What are the four food groups?

Plan your meals around vegetables, fruit and grain products. These foods should cover about 2/3 of your plate. The remaining 1/3 of the plate should be filled with protein rich foods such as dairy products, chicken, fish, meat, tofu, eggs or beans.
