Oxford County undertakes projects year-round to improve roads, properties and infrastructure. This keeps our transportation network in good condition and supports the safe and efficient movement of people and goods in and through our communities.

With a number of major projects taking place in 2022, this page has been set up to make it easier for residents to get information about the work that is taking place.

  • Ingersoll water tower

    Water tower rehabilitation | Beginning March 2002 | Community Update #1 (March 2022) | Community Update #2 (June 2022)

    Oxford County is rehabilitating the existing water tower located at municipal number 403 Wonham Street South located in Ingersoll, Ontario. This work will include completely replacing the existing interior tank linings; over-coating or completely replacing the existing exterior coating systems; undertaking miscellaneous upgrades to ensure compliance with current health and safety standards and/or to improve operation and maintenance; and site restoration/fine grading.

    Construction is expected to start in March 2022. There will be no interruption to water service during construction.

    Watermain extension project | Spring 2021 - Fall 2022 - COMPLETED

    Update: The County’s water distribution infrastructure was expanded along Oxford Road 17, Oxford Road 4 and Lansdowne Avenue to accommodate growth in our communities. This work was mostly funded by development charges.

    • Oxford Road 4: Oxford Road 17 to Devonshire Ave. (May 16 to June 2022)
    • Oxford Road 17: 14th Line to Oxford Road 4 (June to September 2022)
    • Lansdowne Avenue: Springbank Ave. to Oxford Road 4 (Final paving: May 2022)

    Oxford County is extending existing water distribution system along Oxford Road 17, Oxford Road 4 and Lansdowne Avenue to accommodate development growth. Phase 1 construction included watermain and forcemain installation on Lansdowne Avenue, which was completed in 2021. Phase 2 will include watermain installation on Oxford Road 4 and Oxford Road 17.

    Watermain installation begins on Oxford Road 4 in April, 2022, with the road remaining open while construction is underway. There will be lane restrictions and flagged traffic at intermittent locations within the construction limits.

    Oxford Road 17 closes August 2 to through traffic during construction (local traffic will be permitted). A detour will be provided on 13th Line, Oxford Road 33, and 16th Line.

    Reconstruction - Phase 2 | June - October 2022 - COMPLETED

    Update: This project is now completed. Infrastructure improvements on Huron Street (Oxford Road 54) included sanitary sewer replacement, storm sewer repairs and improvements, watermain replacement, road replacement, bike lane and sidewalk upgrades and utility relocations. Oxford County received more than $5 million from the Canada Community-Building Fund in 2022 for this project and work on County Roads 22, 27 and 19.

    Oxford County is continuing infrastructure improvements to Huron Street (Oxford Road 54), with Phase 2 of construction starting in June 2022 and ending approximately in October 2022. Construction work will take place along Huron Street from Ingersoll Avenue to Adelaide Street and will include sanitary sewer replacement, storm sewer repairs and improvements, watermain replacement, road replacement, bike lane and sidewalk upgrades, and utility relocations (hydro, telecommunications and natural gas). This section of road closed August 2, 2022, and is open only for local traffic and business access.

    Intersection improvements | July to October 2022 - COMPLETED

    Update: In 2022, left turning lanes were installed along Oxford Road 59 (Vansittart Avenue) at Frederick Street/Fairway Road, Pittock Park Road, and Ridgewood Boulevard. This work was mostly funded by development charges.

    Intersections at Oxford Road 59 (Vansittart Avenue) and Frederick Street/Fairway Road, Pittock Park Road, and Ridgewood Boulevard will undergo construction to include left lane turns beginning in approximately July 2022 and ending in approximately October 22.

    Update: Construction of a new left turn lane heading into The Oxford School on Oxford Road 59 will August 24 and extend to the first week of September. This work will bring lane closures on Oxford Road 59 and signalized traffic control during construction. Delays are expected.

    Design study for infrastructure improvements | Beginning Spring/Summer 2022 | Design notice

    During the design phase of this project, you can expect to see utility locates, survey work, and engineering investigations taking place on your street. Flags, markers and paint will be used to identify buried utilities in the road right of way. Once the design is complete, a Construction Advisory Notice will be issued and a Public Information Centre will be held. More details about the proposed construction will be available at that time.
